Si tratta nella stragrande maggioranza di giovani sotto i 35 anni, tra i quali pochissime sono le donne e i bambini, hanno un discreto grado d'istruzione, e aspirano a restare in Europa, nei paesi della diaspora Tunisina - Francia, Belgio, Germania, Italia. Sono, insomma, migranti (irregolari) in cerca di lavoro. La situazione va affrontata attraverso una collaborazione fattiva da parte di tutti i Paesi dell’Unione europea. Altrimenti sarà difficile garantire quella positiva integrazione dal basso dei flussi migratori che ha caratterizzato fino ad oggi il nostro Paese, dove vivono pacificamente da molti anni cittadini stranieri che provengono proprio da quei Paesi dove oggi è divampata la rivolta. Molti di questi hanno scelto di rimanere per sempre in Italia, sposandosi (in alcuni casi con un partner italiano), mettendo su famiglia, facendo studiare i propri figli nelle nostre scuole, lavorando presso famiglie o aziende, o avviando essi stessi un’attività imprenditoriale in proprio.



Nell’ultimo anno gli stranieri provenienti dai Paesi del Mediterraneo e regolarmente residenti in Italia sono 675.190, vale a dire il 15,9% dei 4.235.059 stranieri complessivi. Tra questi sono particolarmente numerosi gli immigrati che provengono dal Marocco: con 431.529 presenze registrate alle anagrafi municipalities are the third foreign community in Italy, after Romanian and Albanian.
